The history of Icepharma hf.

Icepharma hf. first emerged in October 2004. At that time, Atorka hf. had bought the company Líf hf. which was the owner and operator of Thorarensen Lyf ehf., Ísmed, Grócó, Heilsuverslun Íslands, A. Karlsson hf., Ilsanta, Lyfjadreifing hf. and Ísfarm. When Atorka bought Líf hf. the company was delisted from Kauphöll Íslands, the Icelandic stock exchange. This was followed by the merger of the companies Thorarensen Lyf, Ísfarm and Heilsuverslun Íslands under the name Icepharma hf., whereupon the formal operation of Icepharma hf. started on January 1st, 2005. In April 2005, Atorka bought all the shares in Austurbakki hf. and Austurbakki was delisted from Kauphöll Íslands.

In the autumn of 2005 a decision was made to merge Icepharma, Ísmed and Austurbakki under the name of Icepharma and this has been the operational form of the company since January 1, 2006. In spring 2007 Atorka largely withdrew from operating companies in the health sector and most of the above mentioned companies were sold. Icepharma was sold in May 2007 to the chairman of the board and the key managers of Icepharma.

Thus, the roots of Icepharma can be traced back to the foundation of the pharmacy Laugavegsapótek by Mr. Stefán Thorarensen in 1919. Therefore, Icepharma is built on a solid foundation and an extensive knowledge which, fortunately, has been preserved despite the great changes that the company has undergone in the past few years.
